Sky Media, the advertising arm of Sky, has launched an exciting new initiative under its Sky Zero Footprint Fund – introducing ‘Local Heroes’, a fund specifically designed to support SMEs and local businesses dedicated to a more sustainable future.

The Sky Zero Footprint Fund, originally launched in 2021, was created to inspire positive behaviour change and help brands, both established and emerging, accelerate their sustainable initiatives nationally, using the power of TV.

The new fund meanwhile brings the same promise to local and regional businesses, with the added advantage of targeted advertising through AdSmart from Sky.

The ‘Sky Zero Footprint Fund Local Heroes’ will award nine businesses from different regions of the UK and the Republic of Ireland £20,000/ €20,000 of media value to spend on a TV campaign, as well as up to £2,500/€2,500 towards ad creation from a local production agency.

The fund is open to SMEs and local businesses, and it will be up to the community to vote their favourite into the top 10 in their area. The top 10 most-voted businesses per region will then move forward to stage 2, which will entail a 15-minute pitch presentation in mid-November.

A judging panel will select the winners based on whether the company has made positive changes to become a more sustainable business, made a positive difference to their local community, and has a product, service or initiative with the potential to drive green consumer behaviour within their local community.

As David Sanderson, Director of AdSmart Local and Development put it: “Businesses of all shapes and sizes around the UK are making real change in the fight against climate change.

“We want to reward those businesses by giving them access to grow their business and spread their sustainable message. AdSmart from Sky is the perfect platform to do that, in a focused and targeted way for regional businesses, and has already helped thousands of businesses get on TV for the first time.”

Through AdSmart from Sky, even small businesses with limited budgets can effectively reach their desired audience by targeting specific demographics, locations and even households. This precision ensures that the sustainable messages of these ‘Local Heroes’ resonate with those who are most likely to engage with and support them.
