The power of podcasting: Unleashing the benefits of being a guest and hosting your own show

Podcasting has become an increasingly popular form of content creation and consumption over the past few years. As a result, more and more businesses are recognising the benefits of podcasting as a marketing tool. In this article, I’ll discuss the benefits of podcasting as a host and a guest and why it’s an excellent tool for raising your professional profile.

This might be the point you do an eye roll and think, “EVERYONE is doing podcasts”. And you’d be right. But, most people do them with no real strategy, and if they host a podcast, they usually give up before it gets traction. Most people don’t record more than five or six episodes, so just by being consistent and recording beyond this you’ll put yourself in the top percent of successful podcasters.

But what about the numbers? According to Podcast.co, if your episodes get more than 124 downloads in 30 days, you’re in the top 50% of podcasts. If your episodes get more than 1,000 downloads, you’re in the top 20%. If your episodes get more than 2,900 downloads, you’re in the top 10%. Not crazy numbers?

Podcasting builds authority and credibility

Podcasting allows hosts to share their knowledge and expertise on a particular topic. This helps you establish yourself as an authority in your industry and build credibility with your audience.

Here are some benefits as a host:

Establish yourself as an authority

Podcasts can be distributed on a variety of platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, and Google Play. This makes it easy for listeners to find and subscribe to your podcast, which can increase your reach.

Increase visibility and grow your audience

As your podcast gains popularity, you can use it to grow your audience and reach new customers. You can promote your podcast on social media, your website, and other channels to attract new listeners. More visibility leads to more sales and fun opportunities.

Build Your Connections

Podcasting allows you to connect with your audience on a more personal level. By sharing your thoughts and insights, you’ll build strong relationships with your listeners and foster a sense of community around your brand. There are benefits for business development also, as it’s an opportunity to invite guests on who you’d love to work with, or clients you want to showcase.

There’s also lots of benefits of being a podcast guest:

Reach a New Audience

As a guest on someone else’s podcast, you’ll reach a new audience that may not be familiar with your brand, increasing your visibility and attracting new customers.

Build Relationships

Being a guest on a podcast is a great way to build relationships with other influencers in your industry. Think of the new business opportunities and collaborations this could lead to in the future.

Position yourself as an expert

By sharing your insights and knowledge on a particular topic, you’ll position yourself as an expert in your field. In turn, you build your credibility and attract new customers.

Increase your social media following

Most podcasts are promoted on social media, which means that being a guest on a podcast can help to increase your social media following. This will further expand your reach and attract new customers.

Generate new content:

Being a guest on a podcast provides you with new content to repurpose for your own channels. It’s a way to keep your content fresh and engaging for your audience.

Podcasting is a relatively low-cost marketing strategy that can provide a high return on investment. Unlike traditional advertising, which is often expensive and difficult to measure, podcasting allows businesses to reach their target audience in a more authentic and engaging way.

So why not give it a try and see how podcasting will help your business?
