Former UK Chancellor to give keynote speech on tax and its role in the UK economy

Accountex London unveil list of high profile speakers for this year’s event

Around ten thousand accounting and finance professionals are expected to attend this year’s Accountex London event, which takes place over two days later this month. The popular annual show is being held at London’s ExCeL Centre on Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16.

Among the many speakers attending this year’s event are former Chancellor of the Exchequer Lord Philip Hammond and the inspirational Richard McCann.

Lord Philip Hammond, who was Chancellor (2016-19) under Prime Minister Theresa May, is hosting a seminar dedicated to the future of the UK economy and its public finances. He will discuss future threats and opportunities, as well as the role which the tax system can play in delivering solutions.

Richard McCann, meanwhile, is managing director of The iCan Academy. Richard explains how you can overcome challenges with the power of ‘iCan’. His speech is titled: ‘Audit your mindset: Overcoming challenges with the power of ‘iCan’.

Richard, who is the son of one of the victims of the Yorkshire Ripper, delivered a successful talk at Accountex Summit Manchester. He will draw from his personal journey of healing and growth, to provide insights and strategies on how to conquer severe challenges such as tragedy and poverty.

This two-day gathering includes more than 250 seminars covering subjects such as Making Tax Digital (MTD), Income Tax Self-Assessment (ITSA) and personal branding.

There will be talks on the importance of Continuous Professional Development (CPD), with visitors benefitting from the expertise of leaders in the world of accountancy and beyond.

And Accountex have announced that, for the first time in the history of this annual event, all seminars are being recorded. This means attendees will be able to watch, for a limited period, the sessions from the days they visited the show. This new and potentially invaluable feature is being sponsored by Moneypenny.

According to Caroline Hobden, who was involved in organising the 2023 event, “The show exceeded our expectations, with it being the biggest and best in the history of Accountex.” She explained that within a few weeks of last year’s show finishing “around 80% of stand space was already rebooked for our 2024 get-together.”

Among the other speakers attending in 2024 is Rebecca Benneyworth, who discusses all things tax. Titled ‘Current topical tax issues’, Rebecca’s speech will take visitors on a whistle stop tour of today’s key concerns and changes.

Also talking about tax is Sharon Cooke of Birmingham-based 20:20 Innovation. She will list her ‘Top 10 tax considerations for 2024/25’ while offering advice on how best to approach these issues.

Elsewhere, Steve Judge will host a seminar on how he survived a near-fatal car accident, to become a world champion as a Paratriathlete.

One of this year’s first time speakers is Mhari Aitken from The Alan Turing Institute. She will address the ‘Real Risks of AI’ with a talk that promises to cut through the noise surrounding this high-profile topic.

Billie Mcloughlin and David Norris will jointly deliver the seminar on ‘The modern accountancy practice and how to get there’. The pair will discuss what the most progressive firms are currently doing to ensure their future success.

And there is also a session by Jeri Williams, the founder and chief executive of Accountants Wealth Academy. She runs offices in both the UK and Dubai, with her talk titled: ‘How I scaled my firms to seven figures and then stepped away from running them’. Jeri explains how to scale efficiently and delegate effectively.
