How to level up your LinkedIn

Having a strong LinkedIn profile can solidify your name in your field, generate leads, and create opportunities for you and your business

It’s no secret that LinkedIn is a vital tool for any entrepreneur to amplify your personal brand. Having a strong LinkedIn profile can solidify your name in your field, generate leads, and create opportunities for you and your business. I’ve had a huge amount of success by growing my own LinkedIn presence.  Here’s a few tricks for you  to level up your LinkedIn.

Enhance before you post

Before you dive into posting, make sure your profile is polished and ready to impress. A fully optimised profile is your best chance at being discovered, and it helps you present yourself exactly as you want the world to see you. Think of your profile as a reflection of your professional persona.

You can check out my profile to see what a ‘complete’ profile looks like because when you’ve not filled out every section, it can be hard to spot the missing bits.

Review this checklist to ensure you’re making the most of each section:

  • Headshot – This is the first thing people see when you leave a comment, post, react or send a connection request, so make sure the photo is clear and represents you well.
  • Banner – Your banner is your 1584 x 396px digital billboard. Add a clear Call To Action on what you want visitors of your profile to do.
  • Contact Information – You would be surprised at how many people fail to update this section! Make sure you’re as contactable as possible – you could be missing out on opportunities otherwise.
  • Headline – This is your elevator pitch distilled into just a few words. Use your headline to tell people exactly who you are, what you do, and why they should care. Make it compelling and remember people only see the first fewwords when you comments on their posts – so make those ones count!
  • About Section – This is your more in-depth pitch. Start by pointing out an area of pain for your target audience and how you solve the problem.
  • Featured Posts – These are your ‘golden’ posts, the ones you don’t want people to miss. These should showcase who you are and what you do without the viewer even needing to scroll. You can use links or graphics in this section too.  Make sure you utilise this function!

Form connections

Start interacting with other users’ posts regularly. The more you’re visible across the platform, the more likely others are to engage with you too. Engage with posts that matter to you and leave thoughtful comments where your insights can add value.

Be proactive about growing your network. Set a goal to send out at least 5 connection requests a day to people in your industry or people you’d like to collaborate with. Personalised requests go a long way in making meaningful connections.

Post, post, and post again

Consistency is key with LinkedIn.

Aim to start posting regularly, as the more active you are, the more you’ll be shown on the platform. Regularly doesn’t have to be every day. If you’ve rarely posted in the past, try and commit to one per week. Share insights into your experiences, your reflections and your expertise, but remember that quality is also important – I would always recommend avoiding the use of AI tools to write it for you. People engage with authentic content, and I’m sure your insights will always be better received than that of a robot. Plus, we can all spot the telltale signs of the ChatGPT LinkedIn post – emojis in the heading anyone?!

LinkedIn can be a powerful business tool if you stick at it. Implement these strategies and watch the magic happen. .
