For most of us, waking up on Monday mornings would be impossible without a caffeine kick. It’s no wonder then that residents of Harrow have welcomed the arrival of an American coffee cove with a twist and some sprinkles for those early starts.
A new Dunkin’ Donuts store in the town represents the company’s first on these shores in two decades and the first in franchisees Neil Patel and Ram Javia’s UK donut adventure. It follows separate franchise agreements struck back in September between Dunkin’ Donuts and Patel and Javia’s DDMG Ltd, as well as with the Court Group, chaired by UK businessman David Sheepshanks CBE.
Whilst DDMG are targeting 25 openings across north London, Sheepshanks’s focus will be firmly on east London with another 25 pencilled in for that neck of the woods. That’s just for starters, though, as discussions are currently taking place regarding the development of a further 150 stores across the UK over the next five years.
On the sweet deal, Patel said: “The UK is a dynamic market, and we believe that Dunkin’ Donuts’ innovative combination of great-tasting food and beverages served in a fast, friendly and fun environment will appeal to the people of Great Britain.”
As can be expected, the brand will also offer regional menu items specific to the UK to cater to local tastes. These will include sausage butties, bacon butties and porridge, in addition to their baked goods and hot and iced beverages.
With reported franchisee sales of approximately $6.9 billion dollars (£4.2 billion) in 2012 and almost 10,500 restaurants across the globe, the company is no stranger to the quick quality service ring and competes with the likes of Starbucks, McDonalds and Krispy Krème for the dough.
Furthermore, the success of Dunkin’ Donuts’ sister brand Baskin-Robbins, which currently has 100 locations in the UK, should certainly give Patel a juicy splodge of confidence for the future. “We are excited about the opportunity to bring Dunkin’ Donuts to North London. We look forward to becoming an integral part of the local community and our guests’ daily routines,” he added.
