It can be tough for SMEs to get ahead. Finding investors or staying updated about your competitors can be difficult. Thankfully, one new solution might make this part of your entrepreneurial journey easier.

Ahead of London Tech Week kicking off on Monday June 10, Tech Nation, a network for entrepreneurs, and Dealroom, a global tech database, have launched Data Commons for UK Tech, a database to assist investors and entrepreneurs with growth.

Currently, Data Commons for UK Tech holds information on 33,180 startups, 8,725 investors, 5,205 corporates and 231 accelerators as well as data on workspaces, service providers and universities. Moreover, the database features categories to make the search process easier, such as lists on female-led startups and potential future UK unicorns.

For instance, anyone interested could easily find our more about promising ventures like meal replacement scaleup Huel, big data analysis startup Quantexa and Muslim dating platform muzmatch. Seemingly recognising that the UK is part of an interconnected web of startup hubs, Data Commons for UK Tech also provides information about foreign tech ecosystems, including Ruhr, Berlin and Rome.

Speaking to Evening Standard, the UK’s digital secretary Jeremy Wright said: “This timely initiative from Tech Nation and Dealroom is a world-first with the potential to spark a new wave of investment in the UK’s tech startups and help create new jobs and prosperity across the country. International and UK-based investors are pumping record amounts of cash into our thriving technology industry. [This] new tool will provide them with a rich new open data source to inform their decisions.”

Of course, platforms like these are nothing new. After all, Crunchbase has provided a similar service for years. Nevertheless,  Data Commons for UK Tech could provide an additional service that will make UK entrepreneurs’ journeys easier to manage.
