UK has 16 finalists in European Business Awards

Citizens and businesses can show a sense of national pride when fellow Brits gain global notoriety. Time to hold your heads up high: 16 British businesses are being recognised in this year’s European Business Awards. In a list of 709 champions, 110 of Europe’s most successful businesses were chosen as finalists and recipients of the prestigious Ruban d’Honneur award. They will now lead into the third and final round, which will see 11 category winners take home their well-deserved gongs.

Out of the 16 UK finalists, Admiral Group will be battling fellow British company UCC COFFEE UK & Ireland in their attempts to net the Employer of the Year Award. Channel Four Television Corporation, Clarke Energy and Utility Warehouse compete for the Business of the Year Award with Turnover of €150m or higher. Other British contenders competing for an array of awards include: Almac Group, Benoy, Charles Tyrwhitt, Durbin, Marks & Spencer, Nottingham City Transport, Paris Presents UK, Randox Laboratories and Ve Interactive. And perhaps worthy of a special mention is former Elite Business cover star JoJo Maman Bébé.

The awards, now in their eighth year, looked at over 24,000 businesses from 33 European countries. The best businesses were then judged by a panel of European business and political leaders, academics and entrepreneurs including Yves Leterme, prime minister of Belgium, and Peter Brabeck-lethmathe, former CEO of Nestle.

The European Business Awards aims to champion and celebrate some of the most successful businesses in Europe. Adrian Tripp, CEO of the European Business Awards, said: “To survive in this economic climate is hard enough, so to innovate, prosper and expand in the way this year’s Ruban D’Honneur recipients have is truly remarkable. Europe needs more companies like these. Well done to them all.”

The winners will be announced on March 3 after careful deliberation of the judging panel as well as a public vote. To do your part to celebrate Britain’s leading businesses, head over to www.businessawardseurope.com to vote for your chosen champions.
