Give as you Live takes Smarta 100 Grand Prize

Enterprise helping online shoppers raise money for charity nets two wins at the 2013 awards

Give as you Live takes Smarta 100 Grand Prize

Unless you’ve been living under a rock in a 3G blackspot, you’ll be aware that the awards season is very much upon us. Perhaps the most significant in our space is, of course, the Smarta 100, recognising the best and brightest of Blighty’s small businesses. And, after months of waiting, the results are finally in following a star-studded ceremony on November 12.

As can be inferred from a glance through our pages, we reserve a special place in our hearts for enterprises with social aims, which is why we are especially pleased to see this year’s Grand Prize winner is none other than the flagship product of Everyclick, Give as you Live, a service helping to bring together online enterprise and not-for-profits.

Designed to utilise the booming e-commerce market to bolster the cash-strapped third sector, Give as you Live enables ethically minded shoppers to help their favourite funds and foundations whilst shopping online. Participating online outlets donate a small part of their profits to the charity of the consumer’s choosing, allowing customers to help their pet causes at no additional cost to themselves. The service is already working with more than 3,000 high profile online outlets, including the likes of play.com, Boots, M&S, Apple and John Lewis, and has raised a whopping £4m for UK charities.

It therefore probably won’t come as a surprise to learn that the Smarta 100 Grand Prize is far from the first accolade Give as you Live has to its name – other awards it has netted include Internet World’s People’s Choice Award 2013 and Best Giving Platform 2013 from the Institute of Fundraising Awards. Founder Polly Gowers was also named tenth most influential woman in IT by the publication Computer Weekly. However, it can’t be denied that netting the Smarta 100 Grand Prize – not to mention picking up an additional prize for Biggest Social Impact – adds even more polish to its glittering success.

Speaking about the enterprise’s win, Dragon and founder of Outsourcery Piers Linney felt they were the perfect recipient for the award. “Give as you Live is a fantastic winner,” he said. “Great business model, grew very quickly, scalable and it does some social good, it gets my thumbs up.”

Other noteworthy winners include Ento Foods, netting Most Innovative Business for their aim to ‘introduc[e] insects to the British diet’, and multi-platform soul and dance brand Mi-Soul, this year’s Startup of the Year. All eyes will most definitely be on Give as you Live and the other Smarta 100 winners.
