Linkedin reveals the ten best UK startups to work for

Every business is a people’s business. Without the right employees, no startup can even dream of becoming a unicorn. However, some UK entrepreneurs seemingly have an easier time finding top talent than others. New research from LinkedIn reveals just which UK startups jobseekers dream to work at the most.

Having analysed the data generated by its users and looking at things like employee growth and engagement, the professional social media platform has found out which the best British startup to work for in 2018 is.

10) Talentful

It’s hardly surprising that Soho-based, Talentful knows how to hire the right person for the job. After all, the recruitment company was set up in 2015 to help other businesses source talent. But despite its young age, Talentful is already heading towards a year-on-year revenue growth of 110%. Having signed Audible, Shazam and Bloomberg as its clients Talentful is now recruiting for its own office and is looking to double its headcount in the next six months. To make this job extra appealing for candidates the job includes a subsidised gym membership and flexible working hours.

9) Blockchain

Given the buzz about cryptocurrencies, it’s  hardly surprising that at least one Bitcoin-related company claimed a spot on this list. Launched in 2011 and already operating in 140 countries and hosting more than 26 million wallets, Blockchain is definitely doing something right. It might have something to do with offering employees a catered team lunch three times a week, a flexible working schedule and an unlimited vacation policy. Blockchain even paid out bonuses in cryptocurrencies.

8) Charlotte Tilbury

Having Kate Moss, Penélope Cruz and Nicole Kidman modelling her products already shows how successful Charlotte Tilbury’s brand has become. The famous make-up artist established her brand in 2013 offering consumers products that focus on skincare and make-up and her products are now found in stores all over the world.

7) Impropable

Imagine being able to play video games without having to wait for it to load the map every minute. Improbable’s SpatialOS platform has done not only that but also proved to be a hit with game developers building massive and complex virtual worlds. No wonder then that co-founders Rob Whitehead, Herman Narula and Peter Lipka saw their company reach unicorn status in May 2017. They started Improbable in 2012 and have hired 181 people in the last 12 months and are still looking for 200 more people to join their fast growing team.

6) DAZN

Aiming to become the “Netflix of sports” DAZN is an on-demand streaming service set up in 2015. The company annually features 20,000 live events and provides sport fanatics with affordable access to sport at any location and at any time. But don’t get too excited yet, despite being headquartered in London their service is not available in the UK yet. The product is only available in a handful countries including Japan, Canada and Switzerland.

5) Skinnydip London

Fashion is having a moment. Not only are more companies in the sector leveraging tech to improve their offerings but scaleups like e-commerce Farfetch have recently reaped huge success on the New York Stock Exchange. So it’s no wonder that one of them would find its way to this list. Having fans like Kylie Jenner and Miley Cyrus, make Skinnydip London’s story quite a successful one. The name doesn’t really give away that this brand is all about fashion but with an in-house department keeping their costumers stylish and updated with the newest trends it definitely is. The retailer currently offer a wide range of products including hip phone cases and trendy bags. With over half a million followers on Instagram and two stores in London, we’re surely going to be hearing a lot more of them in the future.

4) Clearbank

Being the first clearing bank in the UK in over 250 years Clearbank waited a long time to make this a success story. It aims to disrupt the traditional system by using cloud-based technology process payments faster, more efficiently and cost-effectively. According to LinkedIn Premium Insight, the company’s hiring has increased 227% in the last two years, maybe because they offer employees discounts, pensions and medical program making it an appealing work place.

3) Revolut

Despite only being around since 2015 Revolut has opened offices in cities including London, Singapore, New York and Moscow and serves more than two million people with offerings including current accounts, free international money transfers and money management technology. Since opening its offices Revolut has executed over 150 million transactions. And anyone joining the team can enjoy being described as being part of its special forces, have access to free dinners, a private pension plan and free subscriptions to its products.

2) Gymshark

With the latest fitness craze and a constant demand for the better sportswear, it is no surprise that there is at least one fitness related brand in this list. Gymshark is seen as one of the fastest-growing fitness apparel and accessories brand with an expected turnover of 100 million pounds in 2018. It brings effective, innovative performance wear to its customers in 131 countries. The company is offering positions in several areas. Unsurprisingly, it even has a gym in the office as well as nap pods, VR gaming stations and an in-house barber, making this an extra fun workplace.

1) Monzo Bank

Monzo tops the list of being the most desirable UK startup to work for the second year running. The bank offers an alternative to traditional banking and has seen a whopping 447% surge in hiring over the last two years. It’s looking to expand internationally and show no sign of slowing down since opening in 2015. You might wonder what makes it the best startup company to work for? Well, it offers employees some pretty good deals including the opportunity to select their own equipment, do in-office yoga and pilates, have a catered lunch twice a week and receive a salary review every six months. Plus, on top of an annual 32 vacation days, staff can take an extra month of unpaid leave to pursue personal projects.

Sourcing the best talent for your startup is always going to be a challenge, so it might be worth drawing some inspirations from the companies on the list.
