96% of recruiters see Brexit impacting hiring strategies, says LinkedIn

With the Brexit clock ticking, nearly all UK recruiters have been forced to change their tactics to attract talent

96% of recruiters see Brexit impacting hiring strategies

Brexit has caused a lot of uncertainty in the market. Now adding to the gloom, it has been revealed that a staggering 96% of HR managers and recruiters believe strategies for gaining talent has been impacted.

LinkedIn’s quarterly Recruiter Sentiment survey discovered that 46% of HR professionals and recruiters think Brexit has had a big or huge impact on their hiring tactics. For instance, having spoken with candidates, 44% of hiring professionals believe Britain to be less attractive among EU candidates and 28% think the same about talent from the rest of the world. Overall, 36% noted that candidates were unwilling to pack up and move to Britain.

But those are not the only ways that companies have had to change their recruitment efforts due to the divorce from the EU. For instance, 40% of professionals think the conscious uncoupling has led to a smaller availability of talent and 38% noted that they had to adapt to business uncertainties.

However, despite all of the challenges poised by Brexit, it seems as if the hiring sector is still surprisingly bullish about the future. Speaking with the professionals, LinkedIn revealed that 71% remain very or extremely confident that they’ll get the right talent, 48% who saw an increase in hiring over 2018’s first quarter and 44% had seen no change whatsoever.

Commenting on the findings Jon Addison, head of talent solutions at LinkedIn UK, said: “There are three important steps businesses can and should be taking to address the ‘access to talent’ challenges they face since the Brexit vote. First, ensuring that long-term hiring strategies and workforce planning are aligned with business priorities is vital.”

“Second, make more of what you already have: think about how you could upskill your existing team to ensure that your business is well equipped to navigate the more competitive external hiring landscape. Think learning and development first. And third, elevate your brand beyond borders.”

With just under a year until the Brexit deadline, affected recruitment strategies at this stage aren’t a good sign for March 29.
