Finalists announced for Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award

Boardroom equality might still be a long way off but it’s safe to say that what the UK lacks in female execs, it more than makes up for in pioneering female business leaders. And, just in case this was in doubt, the shortlist for this year’s Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award has proven once again that Blighty is home to some of the world’s most enterprising women.

The three finalists for the 2016 version of the award are Clare Gilmartin, CEO of Trainline, the online train tickets company; Charlotte Tilbury, founder and creative director of Charlotte Tilbury, the global beauty brand; and Sarah Wood, founder and co-CEO of Unruly, the video adtech company. Each finalist was selected in recognition of their entrepreneurship, financial success, commitment to corporate social responsibility and position as a role model for other female business women.

Meanwhile, there are some familiar names shortlisted for the Veuve Clicquot New Generation Award, which celebrates the women heading up businesses that are destined for future success. Alice Bentinck, co-founder of Entrepreneur First, the tech accelerator, is joined on the shortlist by Robyn Exton, founder of LGBT social network HER, and Cassandra Stavrou, founder and CEO of Propercorn, the popcorn company.

The winners of both awards will be announced on May 9 at a ceremony in the Ballroom at Claridge’s. Judges include Caroline Michel, CEO of Peters, Frasers & Dunlop, the literary and talent agency; Ruth Rogers, owner of the River Café; and Moira Benigson, founder of MBS Group, the executive search firm.

“The women shortlisted across each category are some of the strongest we’ve ever had, which really highlights the importance of women in business today,” said Julie Nollet, marketing and communication director at Moët Hennessy UK, owner of the Veuve Clicquot brand. “Madame Clicquot was one of the world’s first female entrepreneurs and, even in the 19th century, demonstrated tremendous business acumen, innovation and desire to succeed. It is incredible to see that all of our nominees exhibit these same values over two hundred years later.”

We couldn’t think of more deserving finalists, so here’s wishing them all the best.
