The Growing Business Awards Winners 2019

On the 27th November 2019 trailblazer businesses gathered at The Pavilion at the Tower of London to honour the finest examples of entrepreneurship and SME growth in the country.

Elite Business work closely with The Growing Business Awards honouring the country’s most outstanding companies for tremendous growth within their industries. We believe in commending growing businesses for their hard work and at the same time acknowledging the UK’s top entrepreneurs for their continued success.

This year’s winners spanned a huge variety of industries including film, retail, healthcare, technology, food and marketing whilst also recognising individual entrepreneurs for their contribution to business.

Re:Cognition Health, a cognitive health provider which assists in the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive impairments was awarded The Bridges Positive Impact Award.

Philip Newborough, Co-founder of Bridges Fund Management commented This year’s shortlist featured an impressive array of
high-growth, high-impact businesses, but Re:Cognition Health really
stood out. It’s the fastest growing business of its kind in the world, it’s
improving the lives of millions of people and it has ambitious plans for
further growth, both in the UK and the US.”

Presented with the Santander Growing Business of the Year award was YouGarden, an outdoor ecommerce shop which delivers garden goods to your door.

Darren Hart, Head of Growth Capital, Santander UK said: “Huge
congratulations to You Garden for winning the Santander Growing Business
of the Year: Smaller Company (Turnover £10-25m) Award.  They stood out
across a strong field of finalists with their meticulous attention to
delivering their products over multiple channels as well as the impressive
return on investments across the whole business.  We’re delighted to able
to support ambitious UK companies like You Garden through these awards and the
wider holistic support we offer to small and medium-sized businesses up and
down the country.”

A real stand-out of the evening, taking home not just one but two awards was the winner of the Santander Technology Business Award, Captify
– a consumer search intelligence product.   Sean Longsdale, Managing Director, Structured Finance Group, Santander UK added his comments: “Ten years ago, you would have thought Google had
online search sown up but Captify is redefining this through voice and speech
search and the visual response they provide to customers. That’s what makes
them such worthy winners of the Santander Technology Business of the Year 2019.
Overall, this was an impressive category and the quality of finalists and their
leadership was inspiring.  We’re thrilled to be championing growing
technology businesses like these through the awards and as part of ongoing
support to small and medium sized British businesses throughout the UK.”

ECI highlighted the fierce competition apparent in both of their categories:

“The Consumer category shortlist this year was the
toughest it has been in recent memory. While there were a number of more
established businesses, the winner, Housekeep, was selected for very
high and profitable growth, driven by their innovative tech-driven approach in
consolidating an unloved and fragmented market. Congratulations”

“The quality of the shortlist in the B2B category was extremely
high this year. It was a difficult d
ecision
given the innovation shown by each of the businesses and the enthusiasm of
their teams. The winner Corndel was chosen for their high-quality,
disruptive proposition which has enabled it to deliver exceptionally strong,
profitable growth. There was a clear vision for the future of the business and
the steps needed to get there.  Congratulations and we look forward to
following your continued success.”

Female CEOs take the reigns

Jacqueline O’Donovan took home the Growing Business Awards Entrepreneur of the Year trophy. This award carries double its merit as it recognises not only Jacqueline’s successful company O’Donovan Waste Disposal, but also her entrepreneurial ability to create an innovative product which is disrupting its field and contributing to sustainable business growth in a heavily male dominated industry.

In addition, CEO of SnapDragon Monitoring Rachel Jones collected this year’s Triumph Over Adversity Award. After battling counterfeiters at her previous brand, Rachel returned to business determined to take on the $500bn counterfeit market. SnapDragon Monitoring now helps protect innovative brands across the country from a similar fate.

Growing with the times

Winner of 2019’s Young Company of the Year award, influencer marketing company The Goat Agency bolsters recent suggestions that influencer marketing is becoming a force to be reckoned with. The judges added:

The Goat Agency is on an exceptional growth
trajectory across three continents. It has already established itself as a
pioneer in a marketing channel which may end up reformatting the budget mix for
old and new brands”

Perhaps it’s time to re-visit that marketing budget!
